The Sierra School is very excited to announce the growth of our teacher - leadership team. Alex Gamboa joins as the new Head of Development and Community Partnerships; Margarita Robles joins us as Spanish Teacher, SEP - PE coordinator, and Lauren Gamboa joins us as multi-media art, dance and yoga teacher.
As Head of Development and Community Partnerships, Alex will develop our endowment, strengthen our infrastructure and nurture community partnerships. Gamboa brings to the Sierra School a diverse background in sustainable entrepreneurship, business management, education and real estate. Alex graduated from Yale University with a degree in Economics and also played on the Division I level basketball team where he earned Rookie of the Year honors, helped lead the team to an Ivy League Championship, was appointed Captain, and named a member of the All Ivy-Academic Team. Shortly after graduation, Alex started a non-profit organization called Envirolution. As Executive Director for over 6 years, Alex oversaw operations in both New York and Nevada with a focus on community engagement, partnership development, program and curriculum creation, fundraising and business administration. Alex spearheaded the formation of a for-profit venture for the New York operations and co-wrote a successful 1 million U.S. Dollar National Science Foundation grant for Nevada operations. Both entities still operate successfully today. Alex has taught sustainability classes at the middle and high school levels and will teach such a class at the Sierra School. Alex has also always remained active in the real estate sector, working as a broker and investor in New York, California and Nevada. Coming from a Mexican-American background and having traveled through many parts of Mexico, Alex is dedicated to making a positive impact here in Todos Santos.
Margarita Robles, of Todos Santos, contributes a strong skills set as an experienced SEP regional coordinator. She regularly attends educational conferences in Mexico City. Robles has solid experience in administration, having directed the local public junior high school. She is a SEP accredited physical education instructor, with a passion for team sport and especially basketball. Margarita will instruct Spanish language for non-native speakers, Spanish literature for native speakers, world history and civics. She will also oversee the coordination of our sports program per SEP requirements. Margarita's range of skills, SEP expertise and local knowledge, will strengthen our competitive application for Mexican national accreditation.
Lauren Gamboa brings us a dynamic with nearly a decade of instructional experience in the art. Through her creative consulting business, Lauren works with youth and adults dealing with depression and addiction by facilitating collaborative and creative project opportunities. She is also a certified yoga instructor and since 2012 has provided coaching services that help young athletes stay in sports longer, in better health and in the desired capacity. Lauren is excited to share her passion and expertise in the arts with Sierra Schools students and teachers, allowing us to follow the rigorous IB Diploma Programme arts education model.
